A little while ago I wrote about Protofy, where Moritz Mann, founder and managing director, and his colleagues ensure all employees are able to have monthly coaching. This article (in German) is more about what coaching means to Moritz, who is, in his words, a better boss thanks to coaching, and can approach his working day in a more relaxed and self-reflected way thanks to it.
Even if coaching can be difficult (who wants a look in the mirror in all life’s challenging circumstances), and definitely requires a willingness to work on oneself, it enables clarity, inspires, gives impulses, accelerates and empowers.
Definitely no cure-all, coaching the way I understand it is an opportunity for self-reflection and continuous personal development. I found this to be particularly valuable in leadership and the feedback from my coachees confirms that.
As leaders it is increasingly difficult to have exchanges at eye level, be it through the lack of people around you or the lack of time. That is where coaching can help leaders have an opportunity to step out of their daily grind and spar with someone outside of their immediate surroundings.
Why restrict that to leaders? Every business benefits from its members being able to independently drive their development, their decision making, resolve conflicts, deal with increasing complexity, etc… It leads to better mental health, a better working environment, less sick days (more about that another time), better teamwork and better results.
